Three stand-out memories of that cheerful year in the mobile classroom were playing or longing to play the shit educational adventure game Granny’s Garden on the BBC Micro computer; at one point asking a classroom assistant how to spell the word the, even though I knew, and was either testing whether she knew, or was just testing out being odd; and lastly, well, I’ll start a new sentence for this one. Occasionally on birthdays, classmates would bring in a cake to carve up for everyone; I never told anyone this, or acted upon it, but I held a very strong feeling that I should like to bring in and hand out slices of carrot.
