Tribute to Red Dwarf

The journeys, joy and genius of Red Dwarf will forever be dear to my heart. Since the 1989 repeats of Series 2, this delightful and highly imaginative TV show and multimedia phenomenon has made a tremendous impact on my life, sense of humour, studies, and creativity.

The creators and crew are utterly masterful, the remarkable cast have been a wonder to engage with, the fans are fun, sincere, thorough, kind, and bright, and this franchise rightly ignites awe and devotion for its wit, warmth, insight, linguistic reach, fascinating developments, bewildering inconsistencies, mega smeg-ups, resourcefulness, tenacity, inspirational brilliance, brazen ridiculousness, and exciting to be continued.

I have dear memories of meeting the main cast at two Dimension Jump conventions in the late ’90s, made a fair few art-pieces and stories, and contributed a few pieces to the fanzine Better Than Life, including a logic grid puzzle.

After a decade of passionate fandom, I came close to completing this rhyming comic tribute but then sodded off to uni with only the first few panels inked, and thereafter my number one teenage obsession took a back seat…
